Polypropylene Fiber for Concrete
Polypropylene microfibers are used as secondary reinforcement in cementitious systems, in accordance with international practices and standards (e.g., EN 14889-2).
Dosage Recommendations
The typical dosage for polypropylene microfiber is:
- 0.6 – 1.0 kg / m³ – For standard screed and concrete.
- Up to 1.5 kg / m³ – For cases with increased requirements.
The optimal dose depends on:
- The mix design/composition.
- The aggregate fraction (size).
- The type of application.
- The required mechanical properties.
Function
Polypropylene fiber acts as micro-reinforcement, and its primary functions are:
- Reducing plastic shrinkage cracks.
- Controlling cracking at an early stage.
- Improving durability and material integrity.
Mixing Instructions
The fiber should be added to the concrete mix gradually and mixed thoroughly for at least 5–10 minutes to ensure uniform distribution throughout the mixture.
